The Precipice of Reciprocity
I have been getting in touch with my network more over the past couple weeks. It feels good to exchange ideas with people. I am practicing the art of speaking my intentions and being impeccable with my word. It feels like progress.
Yet, to move past the idea stage, I have to give those ideas the hours needed to develop into something with value. I’m no idealist in that regard. It takes time, which is also money. It takes a whole lot of patience and determination. It takes a bit of being in the right place at the right time. Opportunity meets preparation. This is all a review of your basic motivational speaking, no surprises here for the smarties who I hope are reading this blog :)
This time I am approaching now in my creative career, fledgling as it may be, feels like it will be the most trying for my sanity out of any point so far. Bills are real and they are attached to everything, including the classes which have been such an amazing boon for my audio skillsets. I am at a point where I know enough to be dangerous but I’m still looking for that first break. That first gig. I need to learn just a little more…..oh, the lurch! The waiting! Meanwhile, opportunities for well-paying sales and customer-service phone jobs abound.
This is not my first lurch rodeo, mind you. I have come to know this stage as part of the creative process. Its when I’m 10 hours into a song that I have been digging on for 9.5 hours and then suddenly I’m compelled to throw my computer out the window (drink some water, Sean). The lesson that the lurch taught me is don’t do that.
Sometimes, I need to get up and walk away for a while. Take care of some other needs. Its life. It’s love.
So in short, maybe I’ll have to take a phone job again at some point, but I know in my heart that the love for the art and science of sound is going nowhere, and neither are the creations which came out of this past year.
Speaking of creations: I have a newly remastered single which I am very excited to tell you about. (if you want to just listen to it, click here). Last August (2018) I sat for a 10-day Vipassana course at the center in Kaufman, TX. It was actually my second course- I attended in 2012 but ended up leaving early. This time I finished, and when I got back, I immediately sat down and began working on this song.
Listen to Another Game (Remastered)
“Another Game” represents my journey to believing in myself as a creator. It is the story of how I found my voice in this world and it is tough love for United States’ society at large. It also represents the most complete musical example to date of my new sound design chops, learned largely from THE sound design guru: Francis Preve.
Special thanks to my good friend Bryan Sullivan as well. We recorded lyrics together on the earlier version of this song (listen here). After putting an additional 40 hours in on the remastered version I had more lyrics and what can I say, I had to bump my man to make room. I know he understands and he’s got some metal cooking (melting?) on Spotify.
Look at me, linking to stuff like I know what I’m doing or something. Thanks for reading. Let me know if you wanna hire me for sound stuff! Hehe, but seriously.
